The ECG module displays DICOM-encoded ECG waveforms alongside any imaging in the study. It includes dedicated measurement tools for duration, amplitude, heart rate, QT intervals and QRS axis.
Step 1: Open an ECG study
Open a study containing an ECG waveform. The ECG thumbnail shows a small waveform icon. Click it to load into a viewport. The ECG viewport has its own toolbar above the waveform.
Step 2: Change display scale
Use the Horizontal scale selector to set mm/second (typically 25 or 50). Use the Vertical scale selector to set mm/mV (typically 10). These match the conventions on paper ECG printouts.
Step 3: Measure duration and amplitude
Click Measurement and select a segment. The tool returns segment duration, amplitude, and calculated heart rate per minute. Useful for reviewing P-wave duration, PR interval, and QRS width.
Step 4: Measure QT intervals
Click QT points and mark R, S, Q, and T points on the waveform. The tool calculates RR, QT, and QTc intervals using the standard Bazett correction.
Step 5: Use HR and QRS Axis tools
HR measures heart rate and flags irregularity visually. QRS Axis measures the mean electrical axis using lead I and aVF, helpful for axis deviation assessment.
Tips
- Calibrate your measurements by confirming the 1 mV square wave appears as 10mm tall at the 10mm/mV setting. If it does not, the encoding or display scale is off.
- ECG objects travel with the patient study in DICOM. Exporting an ECG via the standard Export dialog writes a valid DICOM ECG object consumable by cardiology systems.
